Almost two-thirds of public sector staff feel unable to fulfil their potential at work, new research reveals.

A survey of more than 1,700 public sector workers found that more than 65% felt they were not working in a position that reflected their true potential.

However, more than half, 53.6%, felt valued at work and two-thirds, 66.1%, said they were able to develop their skills.

Kevin Young, managing director of on-line learning company SkillSoft, which carried out the survey, said better training was the key.

'Just consider the productivity gains that could be achieved if the public sector stepped up its commitment to training,' he said.
