Muslim families are less satisfied with the service they receive from housing associations than other tenants, a new survey reveals.
Just 62% of Muslim tenants believe that their landlord keeps their home in a decent condition compared with 70% of all tenants. For repairs, 66% of Muslim tenants are satisfied, compared with 72% generally.
The survey of 10,000 tenants (4.7% of whom defined themselves as Muslim) was carried out by the Housing Corporation ahead of a conference focusing on the Muslim community, which was held in West Yorkshire on November 17.
Muslim tenants are also more likely to live in overcrowded conditions. Ten per cent live in households made up of seven or more people, compared with 2% of tenants overall. Social landlords say the demand for larger properties is outstripping supply.
Peter Dixon, chair of the corporation, said social landlords must act upon the views expressed: 'Muslim communities face very real housing issues and the onus is on the sector to help tackle them.'
