Plans to publish league tables showing the efficiency of housing associations and developers that receive government grant have been scrapped by the Housing Corporation.

Instead, the HC has announced that a new value-for-grant comparator, created jointly with the National Audit Office, will only be used internally by the corporation.

Organisations receiving grant are expected to contribute savings of £792m towards the £1.66bn required from the affordable housing sector over three years.

Jon Rouse, the corporation's chief executive, said better procurement would save £430m and lead to the building of an extra 8,000 homes.
