Mike Thatcher to take over at <I>Public Finance</I>

The new editor of Public Finance is to be Mike Thatcher, who has held the position of deputy editor since September 1998. He takes over on February 28 from Victor Smart who is to edit the leading business monthly, Management Today .

Steve Freer, CIPFA chief executive, commented: 'Public Finance is a strong and vibrant magazine and Mike has the ability and drive to push it forward further. Since he joined, he has proved his tenacity and the strength of his journalistic credentials. Above all, he is committed to tackling complex public sector issues in an accessible but imaginative way.'

Thatcher was previously commissioning editor on People Management magazine, and news editor on Personnel Management. He has also worked as an editor of financial reports.

'Victor is a hard act to follow, but I aim to continue the work he has done in making PF appeal to a wider audience,' he said. 'We will continue to use high-calibre contributors and run provocative and challenging news stories and features.'

The new deputy editor will be Maria McHale, who has been contributing editor of the magazine since August 1998.

Public Finance has a circulation of 23,000 and is the only print magazine on the Government Secure Intranet.
